The Things We Do

In less than two weeks my chickies "track off" until after the new year. Which basically means no school for almost six weeks. Which I LOVE because it means sleeping in, baking cookies, watching movies, and reading for fun.

However, what it also means is that for the past couple of weeks and the next ten days, there is so much stuff going on at school that I can't keep it all straight. And for some reason I feel obligated to help out with a bunch of it.

Things like field trips, which is what I helped with today.

Have I ever mentioned how hivey and twitchy large groups of small children make me? Because they do.

Today the second grade class went to the Wildlife Experience where the sound of shushing was heard all throughout the IMAX movie. And also where I began to get motion sickness from the IMAX movie being shot as if we were in the vehicle actually travelling through the African Savannah by jeep.

Good times.

But if you've been wondering where I've been, it's spending way too much time helping out at the school. I hope my Chickies appreciate that it is all for them!

7 peeps back:

I've heard that can be a problem with the IMAX movies. That's part of why I've tried to avoid them....to say nothing of the extra $4 per ticket it costs to get the "IMAX experience".

They do appreciate it, you just won't hear it until you can't be there as much anymore! Sad about the IMAX, I also normally get sick and didn't with that movie, we went a couple of months ago, but maybe it was the kids and not the movie!

Wow! How lucky for the chickies that they get to have six weeks of school off. You must be so excited! I have the same nauseous feeling when watching the IMAX movies. Hubby and I took the kids to one during summer break. I wasn't sure I could stay through the entire 30 minutes.

Is this a year round school? I've often wondered how all that works? Do you like them on that sort of schedule?

As for helping out, I'll bet its something your kids will never forget. I am actually thinking of taking an afternoon off work so I can spend a couple of hours at my son's school...I always wished my parents had been the ones that chaperoned and were involved in the PTA, etc. They always had to work...I think I can't afford to, and then I think I can't afford NOT to.

We ARE on year round school and I LOVE it. Of course I think it works for me because I "stay" home. The do offer interim care for working families, though. So there are four tracks but only three are in at any given time. It allows for more kids in the one school. We have three weeks off in September, 5-6 from November to January, three in March and six from June/July.

Our school district is considering switching from a traditional school year to a traditional modified system, which it sounds like what you all are on. I actually would like that because I like the idea of the kids having frequent breaks throughout the year and a shorter summer.

Even though your kids may not seem like they appreciate your participation in their class, they certainly do appreciate it. If you didn't volunteer, they'd be asking why you don't spend more time in their class. I haven't been able to volunteer at all in my kids kindergarten class because I have the little twins to care for and Cole and Bella definitely notice my absence when other parents are there helping.

I wish we had year round school. The almost 3 month summer break is too long. My kids forget everything!

Hope you have fun with your chickies during their break!
